The European Union’s Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) entered into force on June 29, 2023, and its requirements will become fully applicable on December 30, 2025. These include the implementation of due diligence systems designed to verify the legality and deforestation-free origin of products.
As a downstream operator, UPM Plywood is required to establish and maintain an up-to-date due diligence system. This involves two key steps: first, verifying that direct suppliers have conducted due diligence, and second, submitting a due diligence statement (DDS) to the EU’s TRACES information system. To ensure full traceability, the DDS must include the reference and verification numbers from the due diligence statements submitted by those suppliers.
After submitting a DDS to TRACES, UPM receives new reference and verification numbers, which are then made available to customers either on invoices or through the MyWISA customer portal. Customers can then use these reference and verification numbers to make their own DDSs.
"We're proud to offer a user-friendly solution that gives our customers clear, account-specific EUDR data through our MyWISA customer portal. With straightforward reporting and tailored, downloadable data, we're driving transparency and traceability every step of the way," UPM Plywood's Senior Manager of Digital Services Mikko Tilli notes.
UPM’s public due diligence system will be made available through its website closer to the regulation’s full application.
