Pronk Projectbegeleiding creates high-quality wooden interiors with WISA® plywood

For Sander Pronk, owner of Pronk Projectbegeleiding, high-quality building starts with high-quality materials. In renovation and small-scale construction projects in the Netherlands, WISA®-Spruce Special helps him combine reliable performance, smooth installation and a refined wooden finish.

After 25 years on the supply side of the building materials industry, Sander Pronk founded Pronk Projectbegeleiding. The idea was sparked by renovating his own home and discovering what his material knowledge could achieve end-to-end. Based in Baarn, he now works on interior renovations, garden buildings and home extensions.

Pronk’s customers are mainly private homeowners who come with an initial vision, not a finished plan. He starts with an intake conversation, followed by a second meeting where he shows materials and discusses options before any definitive plan is made.

“The client comes with a rough idea. I listen and think about which materials fit. I show options they hadn’t considered, and that’s where the enthusiasm comes,” he says.

This way of working is closely linked to Pronk’s ambition as a builder.

“I like to build things that are not standard but have a wow factor. I want to go beyond the customer’s expectations.”

Quality materials make quality building possible

For Pronk, the quality of the raw material affects both the building process and the final result.

“Quality is everything. If you use crooked timber, you can never build a straight wall. If you use cheaper products, it is not worth it in terms of the final cost or the building speed. Always go for quality products.”

This is why he uses WISA®-Spruce Special plywood in interior applications such as walls and ceilings, floors and built-in furniture.

“It is light to work with, flat and straight. The speed and accuracy of working with the plywood compensate for any price difference.”

For floors, Pronk often chooses 21-millimeter WISA®-Spruce Special panels.

“In old houses, where the beams are at a wider distance, using a thicker floor panel makes the floor stronger without having to do anything extra.”

A sustainable choice for both structure and finish

A recent studio project in Almere shows what that means in practice. The space was shell-only: a 30 m² sloped ceiling, walls one and a half stories high, no cover strips or finishing battens. Every corner had to close seamlessly. WISA-Spruce Special was not the obvious choice for this application, but Pronk knew it would deliver the precision the design demanded. The result: a minimal, seamless interior where the wood does the work.

“Many people see it as construction plywood, which it is. But applied properly, it is also a beautiful finished surface. With another material, it would look flat and dead. The wood makes it come alive.”

In the Almere studio project, the environmental aspect was especially important for the customer.

“For them, the environmental point was a showstopper. The product had to tick all the boxes.”

WISA-Spruce Special’s documented environmental credentials helped support the material choice. Made from sustainably sourced, FSC™- (FSC C009856) and PEFC- (PEFC/02-31-112) certified wood, the product is supported by a third-party verified Environmental Product Declaration and meets E1 formaldehyde and M1 emission classifications.

In the Netherlands, verified environmental data for WISA-Spruce Special is also available through the Nationale Milieudatabase, helping construction professionals use product-specific data in environmental performance calculations.

Environmental aspects are something that customers are increasingly interested in, Pronk says.

“Since I started my own business, I have been surprised by how many customers ask about things such as glues, formaldehyde and environmental performance. These are details people want to know about.”

A no-worry product for high-quality results

Pronk sees wood becoming more popular in Dutch construction and renovation. For him, wooden surfaces bring warmth and character to buildings, while WISA plywood gives value for money and removes uncertainty from the building process.

“When you use WISA plywood, you don’t have to worry about it. You know it is good, it is a no-worry product.”
