Responsible WISA® plywood resonates at the UK Road Transport Expo

Sustainability becomes ever more important for truck and trailer manufacturers and leasers. UPM Plywood participated in the Road Transport Expo to listen to industry players and keep up with the trends in the UK market.

Road Transport Expo is a tradeshow dedicated to the world of trucks. On the 4th – 6th of June, more than 200 industry players, including all the major truck and trailer manufacturers, leasing companies and component suppliers, gathered in the National Agricultural and Exhibition Centre, Stoneleigh Park, in Warwickshire, UK.

As a market-leading supplier of quality plywood for vehicle flooring, UPM Plywood was naturally there too.

Inspiration and lots of networking

“All the key people of the industry were there, so it was a great opportunity to network and understand what is going on in the business,” explains UK Sales Manager Andrew Jackson, who has attended the event since it was founded by Road Transport Media in 2022.

He was joined by Jennifer Mohring, Senior Specialist, Sales in the UK, and Sirkku Salmikuukka, Senior Manager for the vehicle flooring end use at UPM Plywood, who travelled from Finland to participate in the event for the first time. The relatively newly appointed end use manager was excited to gain insights and inspiration and meet some of UPM Plywood’s major UK-based vehicle flooring customers.

“To meet people and make connections was the biggest gain for me as a newcomer,” Salmikuukka says. “Visiting the event with local representatives with wide networks, gave me the opportunity to have varied discussions.”

Salmikuukka was looking for weak signals and big developments in the market and industry. After days of open discussions with vehicle manufacturers and end-users, Salmikuukka left the event with the positive impression that WISA®-Trans Mk2 works and performs as promised.

New WISA-Trans pattern well-received

In addition to extensive networking, the three-day event offered a series of talks on key topics such as vehicle compliance, technology innovation and fleet decarbonisation. Sustainability was among the most discussed themes at the Road Transport Expo – a development that Salmikuukka applauds.

“Our job is to listen and gain insights on how industry players in the road transport sector see the future of sustainability,” she says.

As more companies engage in sustainability reporting, the carbon footprint of every component count, and responsible, high-performing low-emission floor materials like WISA plywood catch attention.

Several exhibitors across the vast venue showed trucks and trailers fitted with WISA-Trans Mk2, launched with an updated surface pattern a year ago.

“The new look has been accepted well; many people, also from the leasing companies, pointed out that WISA-Trans is now distinguishable, different and good-looking,” notes Salmikuukka, and Jackson adds: “It was re-assuring to notice that our WISA brand is recognisable as quality.”
