WISA-Birch LG is a high-quality long-grained birch plywood originating from Finland. It is a light-coloured and strong plywood panel for multiple end-uses, including shopfitting, carpentry and interior lining. The panel is made of birch veneers bonded with weather-resistant glue. The product has a light, smooth and even surface that offers an optimal base for different overlaying methods.

Long-grained WISA birch plywood is both beautiful and practical
Long-grained birch plywood has a unique visually pleasing and harmonious look which makes it popular in uses such as kitchen fittings, furniture manufacturing and interior design.
“Long-grained birch plywood is a popular choice in furniture, wall panelling and kitchen cabinets due to its flexibility of use and the ability to match boards, for example, in both the side panels of tall kitchen units and standard cabinets. Cross-grained birch plywood on the other hand is typically used in furniture, interior linings, shop fittings, packaging and construction,” explains Robert Allinson, UPM Plywood’s Sales Manager in the UK.
Certified birch plywood from Finland
Previously manufactured at the UPM Plywood Chudovo mill in Russia, WISA®-Birch LG has not been available since the beginning of Russia's war of aggression in Ukraine. This has created a gap in the market for long-grained birch plywood from legal sources. There have been reports of attempts to fill this gap with illegally imported Russian plywood in violation of EU sanctions and anti-dumping duties on birch plywood imports.
In March 2022 UPM announced suspension of its business activities in Russia, including deliveries, wood procurement and the Chudovo plywood mill. UPM completed the withdrawal of its businesses from Russia by selling all its Russian operations in April 2023. Now the product is again available, manufactured in Finland, with the same environmental certifications and quality as all WISA products. WISA®-Birch LG carries FSC™ (FSC C009856) or PEFC (PEFC/02-31-112) certifications.
